What is the Manta5 Hydrofoil?
Get ready to bike on the water with a Manta5 hydrofoil.
These unique vessels embrace a bicycle-like design where the pedals power a small propeller instead of wheels.
An electric-assist motor assists the power achieved from pedaling to make zipping across the water even easier and more fun.
The futuristic design of Manta5 hydrofoils makes them eye-catching and appealing. They look like something out of the future, both in appearance and in performance.
Though several models are available, the Manta5 XE-1 is by far the most popular.
The key highlight of the XE-1 and other Manta5 hydrofoils is simply how fast they’re able to move across the water’s surface.
Most other water bicycles created by other brands dawdle over the water. Their design isn’t capable of moving quickly over the water’s surface.
The Manta5 XE-1 is a whole different story. The submerged wings (hydrofoils), lightweight and aerodynamic body, and pedal-assisted electric engine make this vessel capable of reaching high speeds.
The engine is paired with a waterproof lithium ion battery. The battery holds enough power for approximately an hour of use per charge (although this varies slightly depending on rider weight).
The XE-1 is constructed solely of the highest quality materials. These include a 6061-aluminum frame and carbon fiber hydrofoils.
Manta5 got its start in New Zealand. Their hydrofoils are still only offered in this country although distribution in the United States is planned for 2019.
The original goal was to mimic the bicycling experience but on water. They’ve achieved that and more in short order.
In addition to feeling like bicycling, a Manta5 hydrofoil is extremely intuitive. This overall user-friendliness means that these vessels have a very low learning curve.
With that said, the only challenging aspect of using a Manta5 hydrofoil is launching it. The bikes must be launched from underneath the water with a special technique.
Although this special technique is required, most people will easily learn it in a handful of launches and master it shortly thereafter.
One of the biggest highlights of Manta5 and its hydrofoils is the easy maintenance. Each hydrofoil is designed not only with extreme durability and waterproofing in mind (in both fresh and salt water), but also ease of maintenance.
It’s easy to access the engine, crankshaft, gearbox, propeller, and battery area. Each of these components is straightforward to work on by yourself if you choose to do your own maintenance.
